We
live in Florida, most of the time our weather is beautiful
and envied by all. However, as we have all learned in the
last few seasons, our weather can also be very devastating!
Hurricanes are real; they can and do happen!
None of us are exempt and we MUST be prepared. Being
prepared saves lives… having a plan and sticking to it is a
must!
Start now, having your hurricane supplies ready and waiting
will save you valuable time later, and allow you to focus on
matters at hand without scrambling at the last minute to
find supplies that will be in short supply!
If
you are shuttering your home, do so early, trying to install
shutters in gusting wind and rain is very dangerous. Don’t
wait until the last minute.
Clean up your yard; do not leave any items outside that
could be swept up in hurricane winds causing damage or loss
of life to you or others. Secure all patio furniture and
loose items, the best idea is to bring everything inside,
away from any chance of wind uplift.
Lives are more important than material items, if evacuation
is necessary, do so! If you plan on evacuating, leave early,
being caught in last minute evacuation traffic could be a
tragedy. Plan ahead and make reservations early. If you have
a pet, make arrangements to take them with you, do not leave
them behind. In the event your area experiences damage, you
may not be able to get back to your property easily, take
important paperwork with you; insurance documents are a
necessity.
If
your plan is to stay in home, to ride out the storm, be
ready, have your supplies and anticipate the possibility
that you may be without electricity for at least a week.
Stock up on food items that do not require refrigeration,
and have at least (1) gallon of drinking water per person
per day, figuring on a (10) day supply. Be prepared to
experience the worst, have your important paperwork, etc.
sealed in water proof plastic containers. Be ready to go if
you are ordered to evacuate.

in your planning and give you guidance in the event we have
an impending storm approaching.
